18 Tunisians arrive in Lampedusa aboard a sailing boat

Yesterday evening, 5th September, the attention of those on Lampedusa was caught by an 8 metre sailing boat drifting in front of the commercial port. There was nobody aboard. Panic momentarily spread among some of the island's inhabitants who owned similar vessels, as there was the possibility that the boat could have been theirs.

A little later, the police arrived on the scene and confirmed that migrants had arrived on the boat. 18 Tunisians who had travelled on the boat were later tracked down. The migrants were transferred to the CSPA (First Reception Centre) at Contrada Imbriacola.
