Pozzallo. Accommodation provided for the 130 Somalis rescued from the sea

One hundred and thirty Somali migrants, including 47 women and two newborns, arrived today on the shores of Pozzallo
The two speed boats which they were travelling on had been identified by the coast guards south-east of Portopalo of Capo Passero. It is likely that the majority of their journey took place aboard an older ship and the traffickers left the migrants to go ashore in the speed boats.
Two vessels departed from Syracuse and Pozzallo to come to the aid of the speed boats. It was with their help that the migrants were accompanied to Pozzallo.
The two pregnant women were taken to hospital as a precaution.
The rest were housed in the sports centre in Pozzallo, whist waiting to be transferred to a CARA (Hosting Centre for Asylum Seekers).
